Classic Changes for 2021
The base model of the 2021 Ram 1500 Classic is identical to the hugely popular 2020 version, but the lineup now has an extra level of flexibility thanks to the All-Terrain package available for the Warlock trim. This optional upgrade adds heavy-duty rear shocks, a suspension lift, and improved approach and departure angles to create a truck that's aimed firmly at off-road exploration.
Two Classic Powertrains
The two underlying powertrain options are the same as in 2020, but when they offer this much performance there's no reason to ask for more. The base configuration is built around a 3.6L V6 which makes 305 horsepower and 269lb-ft of torque, coupled with an eight-speed automatic transmission and either rear-wheel or all-wheel drive. For heavier-duty work, the Classic can be supplied with a meaty 5.7L HEMI V8, which pushes the ponies up to 395hp and raises the torque to 410lb-ft. The Classic may be an pared-down version of the regular 1500, but make no mistake, it's still mightily powerful.
Towing and Payload
Of course, the real test of a pickup is in its capability, and for a mid-size pickup the classic performs excellently. Both powertrain versions can carry up to 857kg in payload, and the V6 model can haul up to 2,164kg in trailer weight. However, choose the V8 and you'll be rewarded with a mammoth maximum towing capacity of 7,246kg.
Cab Configurations
Lastly, the Ram 1500 Classic is available in two cab configurations. The two-door Regular cab is a no-nonsense option that seats three on a single bench seat. The Classic is now the only way to by a new Ram 1500 with this cab option. For greater comfort, the Quad Cab offers four-door access to two rows and seats up to six, or three in the front with space for tools in the rear.
